Saturday Build Update – 2/9/19 – The New “Newbie Bot”

Construction of the so called “Newbie Bot” began today. It’s a robot that is being made wholly by first year students, with only overseeing and slight assistance from adults, returners and alumni. This bot will mostly be used for testing purposes upon completion, but its greater goal is to better teach these students the inner workings of our robots.

Talons and power distributors are now being added to the plastic cardboard that was cut on the CNC mill Friday. This board will be added to the newbie robot later.

Plastic cardboard? Did we just say plastic cardboard? Yes, in fact, we did. As ridiculous as it sounds, for this bot, we are using plastic in a cardboard-like configuration–two solid sheets with plastic fluting between.

In the shop, teams also worked on applying supports for the cargo launching guide on Mr. Harmond’s prototype, supporting the wooden arches. Some new anodized metal was filed down for parts for the newest elevator prototype as well.

The drafting team printed pieces for the 80-20 board connectors, and programmers worked more on shuffleboard and the xbox controller. They also finished the wiring of the PixyCam2, attaching it to the bot for tomorrow’s escapades!
